Helping with history and heritage projects

Sabir Simsek,17, is helping with history and heritage projects in Penicuik as part of the town’s five year regeneration initiative. The programme involves identifying a mentor to assist pupils in preparing for a career.

Manager and mentor

Rod Lugg, the Penicuik Heritage Regeneration Project Manager, has agreed to be Sabir’s mentor.

Second internship

This is the second Career Ready internship the project has hosted.

A great opportunity

Sabir said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside the Penicuik Heritage Regeneration Project. This will help me to think about my future career, gain some work experience and meet professional people in the heritage/history field,  boosting my confidence and communication skills.”

Interested in engineering and design

Sabir is interested in engineering and design and will be able to gain some understanding of how construction engineers, architects and designers work in relation to the historic built environment, working on the restoration and repair of historic buildings.
