School session dates agreed
Councillors have approved school session dates for the three academic years from August 2022 to the end of June 2025.
Closely aligned with neighbouring areas
At the full Council meeting on Tuesday councillors heard the dates are closely aligned with neighbouring council areas in East Lothian and Edinburgh except:
- East Lothian has an in service day at the end of the February break rather than at the end of Christmas each year.
- Edinburgh has one fewer day’s holiday in September and one additional day’s holiday in May, and has an in service day earlier in May in each year.
Parents and staff consulted
The agreement comes after parents, carers, and staff were asked to give their views on the dates during a short consultation running from Monday 25 to Friday 29 October.
Respondents mostly in favour
Thirty people responded and feedback was also gathered on social media. Most people were in favour of the suggested dates.
Can plan ahead
Midlothian Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Jim Muirhead said: “I’m sure parents will be pleased the dates are finalised as it allows them to plan ahead and organise holidays.”
