Building conservation in Midlothian
Midlothian Doors Open Day
Doors Open Days take place each September and are co-ordinated nationally by the Scottish Civic Trust with support from Historic Scotland. Doors Open Day offers visitors an opportunity to visit a wide variety of buildings which give an insight into the culture and heritage of Scotland. Even better...the event is FREE!
The National Doors Open Day website provides information on Doors Open Days across Scotland.
What does Doors Open Day have to offer?
The Doors Open Day event is intended to stimulate interest and a greater understanding of the fascinating architectural heritage, culture and enterprise within our local area.
Buildings that are normally closed to members of the public or normally charge an entry fee are opened to members of the public for free.
It is hoped that by bringing citizens closer to their cultural heritage it will help them get to know and understand each other better.
Along with Scottish Archaeology Month, Doors Open Day is part of European Heritage Days.
We have taken part in Doors Open Day since 1996. On each Doors Open Day, visitors to Midlothian were able to enjoy a wide variety of venues.
Whether visitors want to find out more about local history and architecture, learn about the industrial heritage of Midlothian, see examples of sustainable design or just bring the family along to a family fun day, the programme will have something for everyone.
To find out about Midlothian attractions throughout the year please access the Visit Midlothian website.
