Design proposal 4

The Proposal

A Graduation of Learning Spaces

The proposed community high school seeks to provide the greatest possible range of learning opportunities. Our research has determined that contemporary education occurs not only within the cellular classroom but also across a wide range of settings - both formal and informal. As such, the proposal envisages the use of every possible space including corridors and stairs as places for learning, creating a gradation of spaces from formal teaching environments to self-led independent learning space to cater for the widest possible range of learning experiences.

These spaces range from a traditional classrooms and collaboration spaces for formal teaching, through to small group learning rooms and private study booths for self directed learning and a series of informal breakout spaces such as stairs and window pods for independent study. Multipurpose halls and social dining spaces are also provided and link to the more formal areas within the plan.
