Record improvements in exam results
Congratulations to all of our pupils in Midlothian who receive their examination results today.
55% of S5s achieved one or more Highers
We are delighted to report some record improvements in exam results this year. In S5, at higher level, Midlothian has achieved its highest ever recorded levels with 55% of pupils attaining one or more highers (5% improvement when compared with 2016) and 31% of pupils achieving three or more highers (3% improvement when compared with 2016).
Cllr Muirhead congratulated pupils
Councillor Jim Muirhead, the cabinet member for education, said: “These results are very encouraging and show record results by the end of S5 in particular. Well done to all the pupils and staff who have made this year such a success. We continue to be impressed by the hard work, commitment and dedication of pupils, staff and parents."
New attainment measures are in place
There are now new attainment measures called Insight in place with the implementation of the new qualifications in the Senior Phase and further data will be available in late September with attainment reports being presented to Council in December and May each year.
Help and support is on hand
We want pupils to know that staff members are here to offer advice and support. If any pupils or parents have any queries regarding the results, we advise that you contact your local school directly.
More pupils are going on to a 'positive destination'
The record improvements in attainment by the end of S5 follow the recent improvements in positive destinations, with 95% of Midlothian pupils now moving into an initial positive destination which is our highest ever recorded figure, ranking Midlothian joint 5th when compared with the 32 local authorities in Scotland. While we are really pleased with these initial indicative results we know there is much more to do, at some levels, and we remain committed to improving outcomes for our children and young people in Midlothian.
