Summer Reading Challenge 2025

Story Garden - Summer Reading Challenge 2025

The Summer Reading Challenge is a FREE holiday activity for children. It's all about reading for fun, aiming to improve children's reading skills and confidence.

This year's theme is Story Garden - Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors. This exciting new theme will inspire children to tap into a world of imagination through reading, exploring the magical connection between storytelling and nature.

The Challenge runs every year throughout the summer holidays, and all children aged 4-11 are welcome to take part! Children can read anything they like (really - anything!) and gain reward stickers to highlight progress on their reading record. Sign up at any Midlothian library or online

The Challenge starts on Friday 20th June and ends on Saturday 23rd August.

Free Children's Activities at your local library

There are over 200 FREE events for children to participate in alongside the Summer Reading Challenge this holiday season, with fun for kids of all ages at your local library.

The Library summer events programme is always themed around the Summer Reading Challenge. With nature-themed crafting, scavenger hunts and screenings of family friendly films, plus favourites like Bookbug and Lego Club, there's something for everyone this Summer!

No need to book or be a library member, just drop-in. Please ensure under 8's are accompanied.

Check your local branch for local activities, call your local library to find out what's on, or follow our library service on X and Facebook.
