Applications are now being accepted for the Community Futures Grant Scheme.
This funding from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust is aimed at small-scale projects which will help to improve the quality of life for people in the Mayfield and Easthouses areas.
Projects must be led by voluntary or community groups and fit within the following themes:
Safe Mayfield and Easthouses
Reducing anti-social behaviour; reducing dog-fouling; tackling drug and alcohol abuse and drug dealing
Families and Children
Providing more family support; developing playspaces for children of all ages; providing more activities for children and young people
Community Facilities, Services and Activities
A campaign for better shopping facilities; exploring options for improving public transport; a proper community centre for Mayfield and Easthouses; improving condition of roads and pavements; a campaign for better winter clearing of pavements and roads
Employment and the Economy
More training in skills for young people / more apprenticeships; more employment opportunities for young people; more job opportunities in the local area
Townscape and the Built Environment
Town centre redesign; clean up streets and overgrown gardens; Family Reachout garden project
Councillor Alex Bennett, Midlothian Council Cabinet Member responsible for Regeneration said: "If you have a project that could improve the quality of life for people in Mayfield and Easthouses then this funding might help it become a reality. If it's a small-scale project led by a voluntary or community group which would benefit from £500 to £2000 then please get in touch."
Round 1 of this fund is for projects of between £500 and £2000. The closing date for applications is Friday 24th February, 2012. There will be a subsequent funding round for larger projects, with details to be announced soon.
