Construct or extend a driveway
Do not start work until you get written permission from us.
Please allow at least:
- 15 working days notice for work on non traffic sensitive roads
- 28 working days for work on traffic sensitive roads
Process for applying
- Contact the Duty Planning Officer to see if you require planning permission.
- Contact your landlord for their permission. If your home is owned by the council contact the Housing team or call 0131 6637211.
- Contact the Roads Services team to see if it is possible to lower the kerb. They will assess the area and if it is possible to lower the kerb they will send you an application form.
- Contact the Road Services team for an 'Operations on Roads permit'. A permit costs £137 and will state the dates the work must be carried out. You or your contractor can apply.
If you or your contractor is unable to complete the work within the dates stated on your permit you must contact Road Services as soon as possible or at the latest before noon on the end date on the permit to renew or extend your permit otherwise a new permit will be required. - Return your completed application form with a copy of your contractor's public liability insurance and Street Works Registration card.
