Waste service updates
Update on Tuesday 24 February
We are not able to collect food bins in some parts of Rosewell, Bonnyrigg and Polton. We are also not able to collect glass in some rural areas today. Please bring your containers back in and present it again on your next scheduled collection day. Our team are working hard to resolve the problem, and we expect collections to return to normal as soon as resources allow. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
Update on Monday 23 February
We are not able to empty food bins today in some parts of Midlothian. Please take your bin back in and we will return on your next scheduled collection date. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Changes to your kerbside recycling collection services from 23 March 2026
From March 2026 we are changing how we collect your recycling:
- You will have a NEW green bin for paper, card and cardboard.
- Your blue bin will only be for plastic bottles, tubs and trays, steel and aluminium cans, and cartons.
- There may be a change to the day we collect your blue, green and grey bins. These will be emptied on a three-weekly cycle.
Delivery of your new Green bin
- Green bins will be delivered between mid-January and the end of February 2026.
- Green bins will be delivered to the boundary of residential properties. In the case of an assisted pullout service, bins will be delivered directly to where they are stored.
- You will receive a letter notifying you of the change of service. If your collection day changes, we will let you know.
- For some properties, alternative shared recycling facilities will be provided, and you will be contacted separately regarding these.
- Existing communal recycling bins will be converted to collect either paper and card or plastics, cans and cartons.
