The Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012

All businesses in Scotland must recycle their:

• paper
• glass
• metal
• plastic
• cardboard

Food waste

If you run a café, restaurant or prepare or sell food, and you produce more than 5kg of food waste per week, you must put this out separately for collection (except in rural areas).

A 10L container will hold approximately 5kg of waste.

The regulations apply to all businesses including:

• individual traders
• shops
• offices
• factories
• restaurants 
• schools
• hospitals
